How To Apply Dirt Bike Graphics To Your Motocross Bike
Applying dirt bike graphics to your beloved dirt bike can be a daunting task. Mess it up and you'll be left with a second rate result that will bring a tear to your eye every time you look at it. But, get it spot-on and you can make even the saddest looking old dog look ten years younger! It's like the 'average looking girl' at school before, and after applying makeup. The final result is always a much more visually appealing package. So, read through these pointers on how to apply your new graphics correctly. If you are looking to buy a pimp new dirt bike graphic kit then check out MotocrossGiant. They have a huge range of some of the latest stickers you can slap on your plastics.
- Firstly, remove the old graphics. The easiest way to do this is to apply heat to the underside of the plastics using a hairdryer or heat gun to soften it up. Then scrape it all off using a razor blade or sharp knife - be careful not to cut your pinky's though.
- Thoroughly clean off all residue including blobs of glue using contact cleaner or meths. Be sure to wash the plastics after that with warm, soapy water. This will remove the light film left by any cleaning products. Allow to dry.
- When applying dirt bike graphics it pays to remove the seat of your bike. Begin on the top front of the radiator shroud by peeling the backing paper off the (matching) corner of the graphic. Lightly press it to the plastic and line up the rest of the graphic using the bolt holes and edges as a guide.
- Once you are sure it's in the right position, firmly press the corner of the graphic to the plastic and begin working your way back from the top, forward corner. Some people prefer to peel the backing paper completely off at this stage, but if you are not confident enough to do that, try peeling it off a couple of inches at a time.
Use your thumb and fingers to 'press' and 'slide' across the graphic making sure you don't create any air bubbles or creases. If you do, gently peel it off past the problem area and re-apply. Take your time and keep checking to make sure it is still lined up correctly. TIP: Heating the plastics and the graphic up before hand will make the job a lot easier. It makes any mess-ups more forgiving to fix. Don't be afraid to apply more heat throughout the process.
- When you've managed to adhere the whole graphic successfully - give yourself a pat on the back! Now give it a good, hard rub over with your hands to make it really stick to the plastic. If there are any small bubbles, pop them with a pin or the tip of a knife and press it flat. You won't even notice it.
- Finally, fire up your Missus's hairdryer one last time and heat up the edges. This helps to bond it all together to prevent it peeling off later on.
