    <title>Feb 7, KTM Fuel Injected Two Strokes Coming</title>
    <link>http://www.dirt-bike-tips-and-pics.com/dirt-bike-blog.html#KTM-Fuel-Injected-Two-Strokes-Coming</link>
    <description>Hi,

__If you haven't read it, you should look at the Motocross Action test of the 2012 KTM 250. Buried in the text is this:

&quot;Notes: KTM has a fuel-injected two-stroke engine in the works, but surprisingly they claim that they will release it as an offroad model before putting it on the motocross models. Because of environmental regulations, the enduro line must run cleaner than closed-course motocross machines, which is why KTM fuel-injected the 2012 450EXC, but not the 450SXF.&quot;

__Besides the obvious: What is taking so long!? -- we might ask: Why now, or next year, or whatever? My guess is that when the OSSA Enduro with &quot;fuel injection&quot; gets to market, KTM (and others) will feel that they need something to compete. The fact that the OSSA will not have DFI, but something more like computer-controlled carburetion, may not matter. The guys who buy these things don't know the difference. So anything that can be called &quot;fuel injection&quot; will be seen as a big step forward, and a market advantage.

__By the way, Frits Overmars, a Dutch, two-stroke engine designer, says that Yamaha has not given up on two-strokes -- they are working on a DFI engine. Actually, Yamaha has had DFI on their outboard engines, but it is an old-tech, high-pressure system. There are all sorts of &quot;fuel injection&quot;, but only a few systems that do what two-strokes need. My fear is that the more common half-measures will lead people to believe that &quot;fuel injection&quot; will not fix the two-stroke's ills. The masses are too easily lead down a false path.

    <title>Dec 15, 50cc Two Stroke Engines</title>
    <link>http://www.dirt-bike-tips-and-pics.com/future-of-two-strokes.html</link>
    <description>Hi,

With the return of a 50-cc class in road racing (which the FIM killed in
1983), I think it is interesting to consider where we may be going. Here is a quote from someone who has been involved for a lifetime:

The expert: &quot;The best horsepower we attained at Aprilia last year (2007 125cc GP) was 53.9 HP at 13000 rpm. This means a Pme of 14.88 at a piston speed of 23.6 m/sec. Using these same values means that a single cylinder 50cc would give 29.5 HP at 17850 rpm and a 50cc twin would give 39 HP at 23600 rpm, measured at the gearbox output shaft.

I am 100% sure these values can be attained although it never will be proved due to lack of interest and money. Remember that 50cc development was stopped in 1983 and enormous progress was made in the following 24 years. Now, sadly, also the development of the 125cc two strokes has stopped. The two stroke will only survive in karting but there will be no progress because of the very strict regulations!&quot;
