Motocross Goggles - The Right Ones For You

Motocross goggles come in different shapes, colors and styles, and vary in quality. Their number one purpose is to protect your eyes from dirt, dust, water and any foreign objects that may impair and harm your vision. Their second purpose is to assist you in looking superbly cool.

When it comes to buying the right ones there ain't a whole lot that can go wrong, but there are a few things you should look out for in order to maximize your riding comfort. Like making sure your goggles seal properly around your face and helmet so you don't end up looking like a blazed raccoon after dust and dirt has made a meal of your eye sockets..  not a good look, and it certainly won't help your riding out in any way.

Most goggles come with removable lenses. This allows you to replace old, scratched lenses for new ones rather than buying the frames again. This also means you can use different shades or tints depending on the weather for that particular day. Some of those glary summer afternoons can have you squinting like you've just sucked on a lemon, making it super tricky to see the track or trail in full clarity.

One of the biggest problems with any kind of dirt bike goggles or eyewear is lens fogging. Wrap your face up in some goggles... combine your elevated body heat with a cooler temperature outside... and hey presto, you'll be riding through the 'forest of fog' in no time. Fortunately some clever sods have designed a thing called anti-fog lenses. These are usually supported by an efficient air flow system that allow the goggles to ‘breathe’, preventing any signs of a hazy lens.

Redraven MX Goggles

If you're into your motocross or other types of dirt bike racing, you'll definitely want to consider having a pair of goggles that are set up with a good roll off / tear off system. This is where a clear film is held firmly across the width of your goggles. When you can hardly see anymore through all the mud that the bikes in front of you have spat on your face, you simply remove the filthy lens strip. This leaves a fresh, clean strip over the lens allowing you to see clearly again.

Here are some features you can expect to find on a good pair of motocross goggles:

  • Double density foam - for a snug fit and added comfort
  • Silicon beaded strap to keep the goggles from slipping off your helmet
  • Anti-fog, UV resistant, and semi scratch resistant lenses
  • Easy grab tear-offs
  • Mirror lenses
