Let me preface this by saying that I am not a dirt bike kind of guy. When I was younger, I learned to ride on a 4 stroke Honda 90cc road bike. As I got older I started to amass various little cheap projects here and there.
Currently there are two motorcycles in my garage. One of which is a 1972 Honda CB350 and the other is a 1967 Bridgestone 175. The Honda is a 4 stroke, which puts down about 30HP if I remember correctly, and the Bridgestone puts out about 22HP. While the Honda might eventually reach a higher top speed, it's also very finicky, as has every 4 stroke I've ever owned. The Bridgestone is a 2 stroke road bike, and pound for pound, it is a better bike. It wobbles like mad at roughly 70MPH, but the entire experience is a thrill. It reaches 60 far faster than it's higher output room mate, and it's a lighter bike. It's also never given me any major problems.
To be quite honest, I wish all bikes were two stroke. They don't sound as "ballsy" as the four strokers, but they're just simply MORE FUN. ...and once we lose focus of the basic concept of motorcycles primarily existing for FUN, we might as well not bother riding them anymore.

Aaronchigan... well said mate. Maybe not dainty little scooters, but definitely dirt bikes and other recreational sports bikes are, and should be about having fun riding them. In so many sports these days it's easy to forget why why began doing them in the first place. It's for the stoke!
