Ralph Sarich Australia Engineer 2 Stroke Specialist

by Mal England
(Queensland Australia)

I read articles in Australian Motorcycle News, a fortnightly publication back in the 80's, about Ralph Sarich who was developing 600 cc water-cooled 2 stroke, fuel-injected, supercharged, 3 cylinder engines for use in small cars. At the time he could not get grants from the Aussie Govt to continue research with these engines. But a few of the American outboard engine manufactures were very interested in his technology. I wonder if E-TEC technology was a continuation of his early experiments. I have not heard his name mentioned for 30 years.

2 stroke to me means racing motorcycle TZ, RS, RG, RGV, KR. 4 stroke reminds me of ride on mowers or generators. I hope the 2 stroker makes a return. Really enjoyed your articles on two strokes.

Around 1990 I heard that Engineer Sarich sold the patent for two stroke fuel AND AIR injected to GM, who promptly buried it: too economical.
