Two Strokes Are a Superior Racing Engine

The combination of fewer moving parts, and maximum horsepower at a lower RPM makes two strokes superior in racing conditions. I do believe that four strokes have their place in play / trail bikes as they are very reliable under regular riding conditions whereas 2t's tend to need rings, etc on a regular basis whether racing or not. Four strokes however when raced are required to run at such a high rpm in order to make the necessary horsepower to compete that they have evolved into ticking time bombs that still require a large displacement advantage (handicap) in order to compete (i.e. 125 2T vs. 250 4T & 250 2t vs 450 4T).
Also, two strokes have a better ability to rapidly accelerate in situations that are preset in motocross, and while four strokes have evolved a great deal it still takes twice as many rotations (strokes) to accelerate at the same rate resulting in increased engine wear and eventual failure.
That being said two strokes fail as well, but compare the cost associated with a complete top end rebuild on a two stroke (+/- $200) with a four stroke (+/- $1000). Bottom line in my personal opinion... If it's a four stroke it should have a license plate and turn signals on it.
