Wombat State Forest

by Steve Hollis
(Trentham, Victoria, Australia)

The bush is the best place for riding, so many tracks, so easy to get lost, i love it! It's in the western district of Victoria. DSC patrol some parts, but don't worry, I've never been caught.

A Few Places To Ride
by: Anonymous

There are a few spots - you should be alright near Greendale and Dales Creek. Stay away from pine plantations. If you have a license you will be fine in Wombat State Forest just don't stay in the same spot or ride up and down roads. There are a lot of mince heads out there who have made it very hard to ride now..

Wombat

I have been riding in the Wombat State Forest for 12 months or so and have never had a problem. My dirt bike is rec-reg. Seen local police at times but never a problem.

So Many Areas to Ride at Wombat
by: Anonymous

Wombat state forest has a number of areas in which to ride. The most popular entry is through Carolls Lane in Bullengarook. This entry will take you to both Wombat state forest and the Lerderderg state park - Wombat is the better of the two. Another entry is through Macedon on Blackwood Road at the north end of Wombat where there are sections of pine plantation. In this area you will find some of the best single track circuits in Victoria. This area is often used for mountain bike events.

I have been pulled over several times by police at Wombat. You will be fine provided you have Rego. (full or rec), and are a holder of a license or learners permit. And make sure you have a front and rear light (that works), and don't give lip.. no one likes a smart ar#@.

Before you head out into the forest I strongly advise you purchase a map, they are available from servos and news agents in surrounding towns for anywhere between $8 - $12. It's very easy to get lost without one.

Check out the web site for the Weekend Warriors, they have a map with 2 marked circuits to follow.

Enjoy the ride.

Best Spot?
by: Anonymous

G'day mate, wombat state sounds fantastic. Where's the best place to park the ute and take off from where you won't get done? Are you on a 2 stroke?

It's hard to find a place in Vic without being harassed. We drove 2 hours out to the back of Warburton only to pull the bike off the ute and told to piss off by a ranger. Better that than the cops I spose! But he was also saying that even with rec reg most of the one way trails are a no go. Is there anywhere we can go these days? Pls help!

- Sorry no ideas here. It aint my neck of the woods. Anyone out there have an answer?

Hayden -
