You Can't Blame The Manufacturers...

by Kevin
(Winnipeg. MB Canada)

To be honest I considered a 450 over my 250 2-stroke. But I'm a part-time casual track rider and enjoy hitting the local sand dunes.

People are jumping the four stroke bandwagon because they see their favorite motocross stars who are riding them are killing the 2-strokes.

I have a 2005 YZ 250 2 stroke and I've had 1 top-end rebuild that cost me about $150. I have buddies who have spent thousands on their 4-strokes maintaining them.

As far as emissions go, that's just a wild card that people with no real knowledge about the environment are using to make it look like they care. The amount of pollution these bikes put out doesn't even compare to that of factories and heavy equipment. How about all their private jet flights to their 'important' well-spent tax dollar trips?

To finish, there is nothing wrong with both... You just need a bigger budget to maintain the 4 stroke. As for me? Long live the 2 stroke.
